The Visocchi of Atina in the “Biographical Dictionary of Southern Italy”.”

A social and political rise similar to that of the Bosco family was achieved within a few decades in the provinces by the Visocchi of Atina.

Pasquale Visocchi

Pasquale Visocchi (1817-1908) belonged to a rich and influential family of landlords in the province.

A wealthy landowner, in 1845 he opened a medium-sized paper mill in Atina, which employed 160 workers in 1870. An industrialist of liberal ideas, Pasquale Visocchi, former mayor of Atina from 1847 to 1850, in 1861 he was elected provincial councillor for the district of Atina, reappointed to this position until 1873.

The brother Francescantonio (1834-1908) in the early 1970s he was elected provincial councillor for the Atina district and held this office until 1908, becoming provincial deputy and also president of the Provincial Council of Terra di Lavoro (1907-1908).

Alfonso Visocchi

Another brother, Alfonso (1831-1909), in 1865 he was elected to the national parliament in the Cassino constituency, then re-elected continuously from 1876 to 1898, and appointed senator of the kingdom in 1900.

Giuseppe Visocchi

Pasquale's son, Giuseppe (1850), he became mayor and then podestà of Atina for 37 years from 1894 until his death.

Achille Visocchi

Francescantonio's son, Achilles (1863-1945), a lawyer, was elected deputy in the Cassino constituency from 1900 to 1919 and in the Caserta constituency from 1919 to 1929, before being appointed senator in 1929.

Achille Visocchi He also held important government posts. From 1914 to 1916 in the Salandra ministry he was Undersecretary for Public Works, and from 1917 to 1919 in the Orlando ministry he became Undersecretary for the Treasury, replaced in this position on 19 January 1919 by Enrico De Nicola. From 1919 to 1920 in the ministry headed by Francesco Saverio Nitti, Achille Visocchi held the position of Minister of Agriculture.

Orazio Visocchi

Another son of Francescantonio, Horace (1861-1934), in 1908 he was elected provincial councillor for the district of Atina in place of his deceased father and was then reconfirmed until 1925, serving as president of the Provincial Council of Terra di Lavoro from 1916 to 1920.
