At the same time, when from the Bishop Gaudentius the following were built: Churches of St Lawrence, and of St Biagio That one was likewise founded by this same prelate, as mentioned above, namely that of St Stephen’s attached to the gate, which was called St Rocco’s Gate, now known as Porta di la sù. This church was later named Holy Cross of the City, to distinguish it from S. Croce on Monte Ordicoso, and under that name it served for many years as the title of a canonry, until Canon D. Nicolò Simonelli brought a distinguished relic of St Charles from Milan, the Provost Giovan Bernardino Mancino, at the request of the said Canon, established the Congregation of the said Saint there, and by transferring the title of the canonry to the Altar of St Secondino, this ancient church retained the name of St Charles.
